*Please note – the never argued, absolutely, guaranteed, correct way to enjoy the trail is to travel both ways.
Email from Rob Bistro, NY, USA June ride, 2010:
“We wound up doing the trail clockwise the 1st day and counter clock wise the next. As for the debate, clockwise or counter clock wise? You can’t go wrong with either way. But, by doing it in both directions you see an entirely different view.”
My husband Harold & I are lucky enough to ride the trail at least 3 times a year, …some years we’ve hit 6 times… and each trip is terrific! You can never get tired of the beautiful scenery that greets you after a tight set of turns and the feeling of being one with the road and the nature that surrounds you.
Our favourite way is clockwise….and I can hear the groans from those who feel riding next to the guardrail is best. But we enjoy the scenery best from the clockwise direction, and prefer the ride down Smokey with the tight turns, opposed to the climb.
But in the end IT’S ALL GOOD! Keep the shiny side up and ride the trail either way, JUST RIDE IT!
Clockwise by way of route 19,beautiful views at Creignish, port hood,Mabou and Inverness lead into the Cabot trail.
Very good point. If you come ride the Cabot Trail, you’ve got to unwind on Route 19.

I have riden my bike on the trail annually for the past 42 years and counter-clockwise is my choice, either way you win.
